Common Misconceptions

Does Grace Allow Us to Sin?

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · with Jason

What is the one core truth of this passage? Distill the whole sermon into one sentence here.

1

Grace is Not a License to Sin

Supporting Scripture: Romans 6:1-2, Titus 2:11-12

Romans 6:1-2

1What should we say then?  Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply?  2Absolutely not!  How can we who died to sin  still live in it?

Titus 2:11-12

11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation  for all people,  12instructing us to deny godlessness  and worldly lusts  and to live in a sensible, righteous,  and godly  way in the present age,

Summary: God’s grace doesn’t give us permission to live sinfully; it empowers us to pursue righteousness (Romans 6:1-2, Titus 2:11-12).

Make your case for this point with the text. Use scripture, story, and direct application.
2

We are Called to Transformation

Supporting Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17

17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;  the old has passed away, and see,  the new has  come!

Summary: In Christ, we are new creations and are called to leave behind sinful ways (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Build on the previous point. Where does the text take us next?
3

Consequences of Willful Sin

Supporting Scripture: Hebrews 10:26-27

26For if we deliberately go on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,  27but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries.

Summary: Continuing in sin after receiving grace hardens our hearts and distances us from God (Hebrews 10:26-27).

Bring the trajectory home. What's the final move in the argument?
God’s grace is not an excuse to sin but a call to live a transformed life that reflects His righteousness.
