Big Idea

God is sovereign, eternal, unchanging, and exists as a Trinity, and understanding His attributes helps us to worship and trust Him more fully.

Sermon Outline

GOD IS SOVEREIGN AND ETERNAL

Supporting Scripture: Isaiah 46:9-10

⁹Remember what happened long ago,

for I am God, and there is no other;

I am God, and no one is like me.

¹⁰I declare the end from the beginning,

and from long ago what is not yet done,

saying: my plan will take place,

and I will do all my will.

Key Truth: God declares the end from the beginning; He is in control of all things. He knows the past, the future, and everything in between. Nothing surprises Him, and nothing happens without His knowledge. Illustration #1: Hold up a globe, map, or even pull up Google Earth. God holds the entire world in His hands—every person, every moment, every detail. Illustration #2: Think about reading the last page of a book before you start the first chapter. God not only knows the ending—He wrote the story. When we feel out of control, we can trust that He isn’t.

GOD IS HOLY AND UNCHANGING

Supporting Scripture: Malachi 3:6

⁶“Because I, the Lord, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed. ,

Key Truth: God’s holiness means He is completely pure, set apart, and perfect. His unchanging nature means He is always trustworthy—He never wakes up in a bad mood, changes His mind, or breaks a promise. Illustration #1: Show an unbreakable object (a solid rock, metal bar, or something sturdy). No matter what comes against it, it doesn’t change. God’s character is unshakeable—when everything else is shifting, He stays the same. Illustration #2: Imagine a lighthouse in a storm. The waves crash, the winds blow, but the light stands firm. God’s holiness and faithfulness are like that lighthouse—guiding us, steady and unmoved, no matter how wild life gets.

GOD IS TRIUNE: FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT

Supporting Scripture: Matthew 28:19

¹⁹Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Key Truth: The Trinity reveals God as one being in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is fully God, but they have unique roles and relationships. This is a mystery, but it shows God’s love, unity, and diversity.

Where it lands

Encourage students to trust God’s character and lean on His unchanging nature this week: - Pray: Thank God for being in control, holy, and unchanging. - Reflect: Think of one attribute of God you want to know better. - Act: When faced with a challenge, remind yourself that God is with you and for you—no matter what. Ask students to journal or share how their understanding of God changes how they see themselves and the world.
