Joy in the Midst of Trials

Sunday, March 22, 2026 · with Jason

Discover how to find joy during trials by understanding their purpose in growing our faith.

James 1:2-4

2Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials,  3because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.

TRIALS ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH

ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH

God never wastes a trial. The pain you feel, the disappointment you carry, even the tears you cry—none of it is pointless. Trials are God’s way of testing and building your faith. When you are in the fire, God is at work refining you, shaping you, and preparing you for something greater. Instead of asking “Why me?” God invites us to ask, “What are You doing in me?”

JOY COMES FROM TRUSTING GOD’S PROCESS

JOY COMES FROM GOD’S PROCESS

Joy is not the same as happiness. Happiness is often based on what is happening around us—good grades, friendships, winning the game, things going our way. Joy, the kind James talks about, is rooted in trust. We can have joy because we believe God is working in us and through us, no matter what our circumstances look like. Endurance is not just about hanging on; it is about letting God use every part of the process to build a deep, unshakeable faith.

GOD GIVES WISDOM FOR EVERY TRIAL

GOD GIVES FOR EVERY TRIAL

Imagine planning a road trip to a new city. You could just guess your way there, but it is much easier to use a map or GPS. Wisdom is God’s map for your journey. Sometimes, there are detours, roadblocks, or even U-turns you did not expect—but if you keep listening for His direction, you will get where you need to go.
God does not promise to keep us from every hard thing, but He does promise to use every hard thing for our good and His glory. Real joy is possible—not because life is always easy, but because God is always at work. He is shaping you into the kind of person who can stand strong, love others well, and point the world to Jesus.
Take a few minutes to pray together about specific challenges. Follow up next week and celebrate answered prayers, no matter how small.
