3 The devotion

It is possible to hear a lot of Bible teaching and still remain spiritually unchanged. James compares that to looking in a mirror, walking away, and immediately forgetting what you saw. Information without response can create the illusion of growth.

Obedience does not earn salvation. We are saved by grace through faith. But real faith produces a new direction. Jesus' words move from our ears into our decisions, relationships, habits, and priorities.

At the end of your next sermon, Bible study, or devotional, write one sentence that begins, 'Because this is true, I will…' Make the response specific enough to do. Knowledge becomes formation when truth is practiced.

4 Reflect
  1. Why can hearing biblical truth feel like growth even when nothing changes?
  2. How do grace and obedience fit together?
  3. What is one truth you already know but need to practice?
5 Close in prayer

Ask God to keep you watchful for Him today — and to bring this back to mind when you need it.
